Victorian Scarf

 

     The colors of this scarf reminded me of something you would wear in the early 1900s. The pattern is very easy to work up. And with the Holidays right around the corner, this scarf would make a very nice gift you could finish in an afternoon.

 

Supplies:
     5.00 mm crochet hook
     Burgundy worsted weight yarn
     Antique White worsted weight yarn
     * colors are based on Red Heart Super Saver yarn
     scissors
     yarn needle

Abbreviations Used:
     ch --- chain
     dc --- double-crochet
     sk --- skip
     st/sts --- stitch/stitches
     slp st --- slip stitch
     sc --- single-crochet
     trc --- triple-crochet

Notes:
     --- For a different look, you could use a dark blue or purple in place of the Burgundy yarn.

 

~Pattern~

Scarf:
     Using the Burgundy yarn, ch 21.
     Row 1: 1dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across - 18sts
     Rows 2-126: ch 3, turn; sk first st, 1dc in remaining sts across - 18sts
     Fasten off.

Border Row1:
     Using the Antique White yarn, join with a slp st to the short edge if the Scarf.
     Row 1: ch 1, 1sc in each st across - 18sts
     Rows 2-4: ch 4, turn; sk first st, 1trc in each remaining st across - 18sts
     Row 5: ch 1, turn; 1sc in each st across - 18sts
     Row 6: ch 1, turn; working 1 st at a time, follow these steps
          slp st in first st, 5trc in next st, sk next st
          slp st in next st, 5trc in next st, sk next st
          slp st in next st, 5trc in next st
          slp st in next 2sts
          5trc in next st, slp st in next st
          sk next st, 5trc in next st, slp st in next st
          sk next st, 5trc in next st, slp st in last st
          6 shells created
     Fasten off.

Border Row 2:
     Repeat the process for Border Row 1 on the other short edge of the Scarf.
 

Finishing:
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.
     The ends of the scarf may look a little flared, but that's okay. If you don't like it, you could always block the entire Scarf so everything is even.

Who-Ville Disk Ornaments

     While trying to figure out what to do with my massive stash of mis-matched scraps, I came up with this ornament pattern. They are very easy to work up, so you could make an entire set of the in an afternoon.
     With all the funky colors I used, my family decided the ornaments looked like they belonged on the the Christmas Trees of Who-Ville. Now all I need is a funky looking tree to hang them on =>



Supplies:
     4.25 mm crochet hook
     multi-color worsted weight yarn
     solid color worsted weight yarn that coordinates with the multi-color yarn
     stitch marker
     scissors

Assembly:
     Making sure that the "spiral Side" of each piece is facing out, sc around the outside edge of the two circles, affixing them together - 36sts

Spooky Skull

     Just in time for Halloween, here is a Spooky Skull for you to make. One skein of yarn will make a lot of Skulls; which makes them perfect goodies for dropping into Trick-or-Treat bags.

Supplies:

     5.00 mm crochet hook

     Black yarn

     * colors based on Read Heart Super Saver yarn

     Using the tail of yarn, sew the Eyes onto the Skull.

     Using the black yarn, stitch a nose and mouth onto the face.

Granny Square Bag

     This simple bag is a great way to use up any of that scrap yarn you have laying around. Once completed, the bag is the perfect size to hold a little gift for that special someone.

 

Supplies:
     5.50 mm crochet hook
     worsted weight yarn in your desired color choice
     stitch marker
     scissors
     ruler
     yarn needle

Abbreviations Used:
     ch --- chain
     slp st --- slip stitch
     Rnd(s) --- round(s)
     dc --- double-crochet
     sc --- single-crochet

     sk --- skip
     Bobble --- bobble stitch, see Notes

Notes:
     --- Be sure to move the stitch marker up as you complete each round.
     --- Any color of yarn can be used; but using a multi-color yarn will give the bag a nice look without all the hassle of changing colors.
     --- Bobble Stitch:
               yarn over, pull up a loop; pull through 2 loops
               complete the previous step two more times, until 4 loops remain

Basic Granny Square:
     For my Granny Square, I used this pattern that I found online:

     Using the pattern, make 2 Granny Squares.

     After completing the second Square, DO NOT fasten off.

 

Assembly:
     Holding the two squares together, join yarn with a slp st in the top left hand corner
     * Work through both squares throughout.
   

      Chain 1; work 2sc in the first corner.
     Work 1sc in each st, and 1sc in each ch-2 space along one side to the second corner.
     Work 4sc in the second corner.
     Work 1sc in each st, and 1sc in each ch-2 space along the second side to the third corner.
     Work 4sc in the third corner.
     Work 1sc in each st, and 1sc in each ch-2 space along the third side to the fourth corner.
     Work 2sc in the last corner, leaving the top portion open.
     DO NOT fasten off.

Bag Top:
     Working in the back Granny Square, work 2sc in the corner.
     Work 1sc in each st, and 1sc in each ch-2 space across to the next corner.
     Work 2sc in the corner.
     Now working in the front Granny Square, work 2sc in the corner.
     Work 1sc in each st, and 1sc in each ch-2 space to the next corner.
     Work 2sc in the last corner; slp st in the first sc of the back Granny Square.
     Round 1 is now complete; you will be working in rounds from here to the end.
     

     Rnd 2: 1sc in same st as joining;  1sc in each st around - 46sts
     Rnd 3: 1sc in first st, *ch 2, sk next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around, ending with a ch 2; slp st to first st to join - 23sts, 23 ch-2 spaces

     Rnd 4: 1sc in first st (same st as joining), 1sc in ch-2 space; repeat to end - 46sts
     Rnd 5: slp st in first st, * Bobble in next st, slp st in next 2sts; repeat from * to end - 15 Bobbles created

     Fasten off.

 

Finishing:
     Cut 5 strands of yarn measuring about 17-20 inches long.
     Holding the strands of yarn together, run them through the holes created in Round 3; tie the ends to create a drawstring

Baby Bunny

     This cute little bunny would make the perfect gift for a new baby. I made this one for a little boy; but you could use pink in place of the blue and give it to a little girl too.

     True Blue or Petal Pink worsted weight yarn
     * colors based on Red Heart Super Saver yarn

     Firmly stuff the Tail; sew to the back and bottom of the Bunny.
     Cut a length of blue (or pink) ribbon; wrap around the neck and tie into a bow - if desired.

Teeny Tiny Teddy Bear

     Everyone needs a teddy bear . . . including dolls! At 4" tall, this cute teddy is just the right size for that favorite dolly to take to bed.

     coffee worsted weight yarn
     black worsted weight yarn
     * colors based on Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
     stitch marker
     stuffing material

     multi-colored yarn or ribbon

     Single-crochet through the top 4sts of the Front Body to attach the Front of the Head.

Assembly & Finishing:
     Using the long tail of yarn on the Front of the Body, sew the two.halves of the Teddy Bear together.
     When there are only a few stitches left, firmly stuff the Teddy Bear.
     Sew the remaining stitches closed.
     Using the black yarn, sew facial features onto the Teddy Bear's face.
     Cut a length of multi-colored yarn (or a length of ribbon); wrap around the Teddy Bear's neck and tie it into a bow.

Floppy Kitty

     It has become a tradition now that every year I make my sister a new stuffed cat for Christmas. What better time to start your holiday crafting then in July? Here is my newest kitty to add to my sister's collection.

Crochet Giant Turkey Leg Dog Toy

      Here's another great toy you can make for you favorite four legged friend. Using the very small hook makes the stitches nice and tight; which also makes for a very durable and long lasting toy.

     Rnd 21: 1sc in each st around - 18sts
     Rnd 22: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 23: 1sc in each st around - 24sts
     Rnd 24: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 25: 1sc in each st around - 30sts
     Firmly stuff the "bone" portion of the toy.
     Rnd 26: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnd 27: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
     Rnd 28: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 5sts; repeat to end - 42sts
     Rnd 29: 1sc in each st around - 42sts
     Rnd 30: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 6sts; repeat to end - 48sts
     Rnd 31: 1sc in each st around - 48sts
     Rnd 32: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 7sts; repeat to end - 54sts
     Rnds 33-40: 1sc in each st around - 54sts
     Rnd 41: sc2tog, 1sc in next 7sts; repeat to end - 48sts
     Rnd 42: sc2tog, 1sc in next 6sts; repeat to end - 42sts
     Rnd 43: sc2tog, 1sc in next 5sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnd 44: sc2tog, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 45: sc2tog, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Begin firmly stuffing the "meat" portion; insert the squeaker near the middle of the toy.
     Rnd 46: sc2tog, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 47: sc2tog, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
     Rnd 48: sc2tog; repeat to end - 6sts
     Fasten off; leave a tail for sewing.
     Finish firmly stuffing the turkey leg.
     Using the tail of yarn, sew the opening closed.
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.
